APLAWS is an Open Source Content Management System.
The Accessible and Personalised Local Authority Website System (APLAWS) is an open source Collaboration and Content Management System (CCM) — a set of tools for managing WEB based collaboration and website content. It was developed from the ArsDigita Community System (ACS) that was initiated at MIT by Philip Greenspun, who, together with several MIT colleagues, founded the company ArsDigita. ArsDigita was later acquired by Red Hat, and ACS was developed into the Red Hat CCM. APLAWS is a special configuration of the CCM that was designed as part of a national drive to enable local governments in the U.K. to deliver services online. It was incorporated into the Local Authority Websites National Project, and between 2003 and 2005 the base system and the various website extensions were improved considerably. Because of its momentum APLAWS absorbed most of the development efforts over time and evolved into the central place of development. [Read More]

Future plans
The project is going to create a new release, version 1.0.5
This release will include numerous bug fixes and several functional enhancements.
While the project is moving on to use JAVA standard frameworks and JEE standard runtime environments release 1.0.5 is definitely the last release which uses the APLAWS+ specific runtime container and maintenance procedures and which supports resin 2.1. The next release will break the API and the current web directory structure. Developers of contributed modules will have to inspect their code and re-adjust it to the trunk version.
The enhancements include among others:
* multi-language support for categories
* support for HTML editor \
Get Involved
Getting involved couldn\'t be easier. Aplaws resources reside in two main areas:
https://fedorahosted.org/aplaws/ which contains
* documentation (WIKI) - https://fedorahosted.org/aplaws/wiki/OnlineDocumentation
* Source code (SVN) (anonymous read access available)
And Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/aplaws/)
* developer forum
* Binary distribution
Public Administration Reference
The APLAWS user community has grown steadily, and a large share of the development is now user led. Current efforts are focused on building a general purpose content and collaboration management system, with custom-designed adaptations for U.K. local authorities and Learning Grid websites, self-supporting group websites, scientific WEB information systems, and other special needs. The user group continues to grow.
